What
or who is CCES?
CCES is the
Canadian Center for Ethics in Sport. The following is their statement on doping
free sport.
'The pursuit
of doping-free sport is a matter of public interest. The CCES coordinates the
distribution and adoption of policies that reflect the common interest and
consensus of athletes, athlete support personnel (such as coaches and doctors),
sport governing bodies, and governments in Canada. Their affects are far
reaching and can have many results on many people. As an independent, national,
non-profit organization, CCES is helping build a fair and ethical sport system
by promoting respect for sport, respect for others, drug-free sport, equity,
fair play, safety and non-violence.
The CCES
believes that the institution of sport is a shared construct designed to allow
its participants to pursue sporting excellence as a function of our collective
pursuit of human excellence. Sport is
about the mastery of skill, perseverance, self-improvement, joy and achievement. Good sport lifts the human spirit, and helps
fulfill our human potential.
Sport
therefore means much more than keeping score and winning medals. It enriches
our daily lives as participants, supporters and spectators—from a high school
soccer match to the Olympic Games. Sport
contributes to the moral development of our youth and our values as a society.
That's why maintaining fairness and ethics in sport is so important. "
The list of
prohibited substances is long, there is no doubt about that, so sometimes it is
easier to be aware of what you can take in instances where you need to maintain
your focus and remain competitive.
